- Altitude: Kyarkoti Base Camp (4,000 m / 13,120 ft)
- Acclimatization Hike: 3–5 km | 3–4 hrs
Today is dedicated to acclimatization, an essential part of the Black Peak Expedition that helps your body adjust to the increasing altitude before moving to higher camps. After breakfast, undertake a short acclimatization hike to a higher elevation surrounding Kyarkoti Base Camp, following the principle of “climb high, sleep low.” This process significantly reduces the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) and prepares you for the technical climbing days ahead.
During the hike, enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding glaciers and towering Himalayan peaks, including Black Peak (Kala Nag), Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and Ruinsara Peak. The route passes over rocky moraines, alpine terrain, and glacial streams, providing an excellent opportunity to familiarize yourself with the terrain.
After returning to base camp, spend the afternoon practicing basic mountaineering techniques under the guidance of your expedition leader. Depending on snow conditions, the training may include the use of crampons, ice axe, rope techniques, and safe movement on snow and ice. Your climbing equipment will also be checked and organized for the upcoming ascent to higher camps.
The remainder of the day is reserved for rest, hydration, and acclimatization to ensure everyone is physically prepared for the expedition’s technical phase.
Highlights of the Day:
• Essential acclimatization hike around Kyarkoti Base Camp
• Spectacular views of Black Peak, Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and surrounding glaciers
• Basic training in mountaineering techniques and equipment usage

- Altitude Gain: 600 m / 1,970 ft
- Trek Distance: 6 km | 5–6 hrs
After an early breakfast, begin the load ferry towards Advanced Base Camp (ABC), an important stage of the Black Peak Expedition. Carry a portion of the expedition equipment, food supplies, fuel, and personal gear required for the summit phase. The trail gradually climbs over glacial moraines, rocky ridges, and snow-covered sections, offering a realistic introduction to the terrain that lies ahead.
As you gain altitude, enjoy spectacular views of Black Peak (Kala Nag), Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and the surrounding glaciers. The route becomes increasingly rugged, with loose rocks, glacial streams, and moraine fields replacing the grassy meadows below. This gradual ascent also plays a vital role in improving acclimatization before moving permanently to higher camps.
Upon reaching Advanced Base Camp, unload the expedition gear and spend some time familiarizing yourself with the campsite and climbing route. After a short rest, descend back to Kyarkoti Base Camp following the principle of “climb high, sleep low,” which helps the body adapt more effectively to high altitude and reduces the risk of altitude sickness.
Return to Kyarkoti by evening, enjoy a hot meal, and prepare for the permanent move to Advanced Base Camp the following day.

- Altitude Gain: 600 m / 1,970 ft
- Trek Distance: 6 km | 5–6 hrs
After an early breakfast, pack your personal gear and leave Kyarkoti Base Camp for Advanced Base Camp (ABC), your new campsite for the next stage of the Black Peak Expedition. Since most of the expedition equipment was carried during the previous day’s load ferry, today’s trek is more relaxed and allows you to focus on a steady ascent and proper acclimatization.
The trail follows glacial moraines, rocky ridges, and snow-covered sections, offering magnificent views of Black Peak (Kala Nag), Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and the surrounding Himalayan glaciers. As you climb higher, the landscape becomes increasingly rugged, with vast snowfields and towering peaks creating a truly alpine environment.
Upon reaching Advanced Base Camp, settle into your tents and spend the afternoon resting and hydrating.
